Poll: Do you think internships are a good thing?

A recent survey from gradireland found that 76% of the 120 graduate employers surveyed run internship programmes.

THE TOPIC OF internships can be a divisive issue.

At their best, internships are seen as a way for companies to scout and open up channels for new talent, while helping younger people get a leg up in the industry.

At their worst, their seen as exploitative worker relationships in which companies get labour at low or no pay without any contractual obligations.

Like them or loathe them, however, they are now a key aspect of the working world.

A recent survey from gradireland found that 76% of the 120 graduate employers surveyed run internship programmes.

These employers say that they use internships to spot new hires. A large percentage said that they recruited new employees through internship programmes.

So, useful employment tool, or taking advantage of young workers?
